Après avoir vue l'exposition de David Hockney à Londres récemment j'ai maintenant envie de faire quelques broderies sur des images d'arbres et j'ai commencée hier de préparer le fond d'un morceau de soie. Cette expo a été sublime basé sur les paysages avec des couleurs et les compositions étonnantes. Quel artiste!

The series of six works based on a lovely field down in the valley is now finished, framed and ready for a first showing at Quilt en Beaujolais and can be viewed also on my site.

I recently went to the David Hockney show in London . It was stunning and has made me want to do some work based on trees. I have several images photographed some time ago that I can work with and I started a first piece yesterday preparing the background. We'll see how it progresses.

Since coming back from Australia I have continued on my series of the field below us in the valley. I took photos and sketches of this large field of dying grasses full of all sorts of wild flowers - irresistible! I took 2 of the finished but not yet framed pieces with me and I could have sold them several times over. But I want to exhibit them all together first. I'm very pleased with them and am really enjoying working as a series like this. Amazing the inspiration one field is giving me.

Depuis mon retour d'Australie je continue travailler sur le serie inspiré par le champ en bas dans la vallée. Je travail depuis mes photos et mes croquis de ce grand champ plein d'herbes en train de mourrir et les fleurs de toutes sortes. J'ai pris deux morceaux déjà terminé avec moi et plusieurs persons m'offert de les acheter. Mais d'abord je veux bien les exposer ensemble. J'aime bien travailler sur une thème et ce champ m'a donné beaucoup d'inspiration.
Ils seront exposés premièrement à Quilt en Beaujolais 12-15 avril.

It was fascinating to see how these highly skilled women knotted the designs. With a speed that almost defied the eyes they knotted and cut in a single gesture and some of the silk carpets being made were of an unbelievable fineness - something like 1000 knots per sq cm. Can you wonder we bought one (wool not silk).
C'etait fascinant de voir ces femmes avec une telle habilitée de construire ces tapis. Une seule geste de faire le noeud et de couper le fil tous ça à une vitesse incroyable. Certains tapis en soie contient plus de 1000 noeuds/cm2.

Had a wonderful time in Australia. My workshops were well appreciated and some lovely work was produced albeit some participants started the week feeling very apprehensive and 'out of their comfort zone'.
These residential weeks really spoil us - housed, fed, entertained but of course everyone works amazingly hard - tutors, students, organisers and of course the great kitchen staff keeping us going from dawn til dusk. Geelong Grammar School is a great venue, so luxurious, so spacious - so moneyed!

Great Ocean Road

I think I slept in 11 beds altogether from Melbourne to Geelong, Perth, Bunbury (2 h S of Perth), Adelaide, hostel in the Grampians, Brisbane, Byron Bay, Nabiac not counting a few hours in Hong Kong.
Mon séjour en Australie c'est très bien passé. Les ateliers etaient bien appréciés et des belles broderies travaillées. Quelques élèves se sentaient hors de leur zone de confort au début mais qui ont fait quand même des projets super. J'ai beaucoup voyagé - Melbourne, Geelong, Perth, Bunbury, Adelaide, Brisbane, Byron Bay. Ma seule visite organisée est 'The Great Ocean Road" Les plantes là bas sont époustouflante - luxuriantes, grandes malgré qu'Australie est le plus sec de pays. Mais bien sûr l'année de ma première visite en 2006 le pays souffre une secheresse depuis presque 5 ans et ça a été bien évident. Depuis il avait beaucoup plu.

Expo dans l'Aveyron

C'etait trés sympa l'expo dans ce petit village de Lacapelle. Pas beaucoup de monde pour les stages mais aprés le vernissage fin de la première semaine beaucoup de visiteurs à qui j'ai beaucoup vendu livres, kits et cartes postales. L'ambience etait bien agréeable et notre lieu d'acceuil avec Mijo et Alain dans leur maison c'est trés bien passé. Un grand merci à tous les deux. On a profité d' aller à Albi afin de regarder le cathédrale en brique, magnifique et l'intérieur avec toute la décoration sur les murs est une merveille
Prochainement c'est les cours en Australie ..........surveyez cet espace!

Very agreeable time in the Aveyron during my expo with Emoke et Nadine. It's a lovely department all rolling hills and views. Sold lots of stuff but no works. We visited Albi to look at the brick cathedral a magnificent building. The decorated interior is outstanding and has only been restored over the years in one area.
Next courses are in Australia......watch this space!

Peter, Laurie et Liz en Italie

C'est un moment depuis que je n'écrit pas un mot. Notre séjour en Italie c'est trés bien passé . J'aime bien la langue, la nourriture et les gens. Voilà notre maison de repos, trés paisable. ....et voilà nous en vacance.
Je viens de passer une semaine à Lacapelle Bleys où j'expose avec Emoke et où on a donné des cours. On est resté chez Mijo & Alain, trés sympa - Mijo est l'organisatrice de l'expo et Alain est le Maire du village. J'aime bien leur région dans l'Aveyron.
Hoorah! j'ai commencé aujourd'hui une nouvelle broderie basée sur des photos que j'ai prise hier dans un champs champêtre en face de chez nous. Je sens que je n'ai pas travaillé pour moi pendant une longue période. Mais comme j'ai toujours le planning à faire pour mon séjour en Australie on verra comment je peux continuer.

Haven't managed to write for a while.......had a great time in Italy, lovely place, good food, very nice people. Boy it's a long way to drive though.
I've just had a week in the Aveyron (towards SW France) exhibiting and teaching. We were made very welcome staying with the organiser and her husband the very genial mayor of the village.
I actually began some new work today based on a lovely wildflower field across the valley. I don't seem to have had time (or inclination it has to be admitted) lately so it feels good.
Planning for Australia goes on so that must take priority but I have around 6 weeks to go so I should be alright.

Alors Peter vient de créer un nouveau site pour moi, plus ou moins les mêmes informations mais la mise en page et les couleurs sont changées. Il y a quelques erreurs de la mise en page et il a passé plusieurs jours en essayant de les corriger et le travail a été trés frustrant. Mais allez-y bientôt on espère qu'il sera parfait! www.lizembroidery.com Comme nous travaillons sur un Mac on ne sais pas si Internet Explorer peut ouvrir le site. Peut être quelqu'un aura la gentillesse à nous dire.
L'exo d'Enfibre s'est terminée. Apparement nous avons eu un bon nombre de visiteurs (merci le widget traducteur) Alors quant à moi un peu de repos avant que je me prépare pour le salon en Aveyron et pour mes ateliers en Australie. En fait on va prendre le repos en La Toscane - un repos de bien. A bientôt.

Peter's just created or should I say improved, added and changed the format for my site. Have a look - see above. He's been going mad trying to correct all the faults coming from the system he's using so there are still some which won't budge but we hope it will soon be perfect! Since we work with Mac we're not sure if Internet Explorer will open the site. Maybe some kind person could report?

Enfibre exhibition ended on Saturday having had a good number of visitors. Now I'm having a little rest before I start preparing for the next event in the Aveyron and then for my courses in Australia. In fact having a rest in Tuscany for a week which I'm looking forward to.
