Poppies in Monique's olive grove Roman 30x40cm

 

 

I had great fun with this work as it's mostly collaged fabrics and threads with some simple stitching for seed heads.  It's quite a while since I used the poppy theme and I found it good to have a change of colours after completeing (maybe) the big series of the St Gèly field which were muted greens, yellows and a few others.  I've begun another smaller poppy work.

J'avais beaucoup de plaisir à la création de ce morceau sur le théme de coquelicots encore une fois. C'était un agréable changement de couleur de la série de St Gèly

Australia rushing nearer!

Getting a bit panicky now as Feb 19 and my departure for warmer climes looms ever nearer.  With salons in Briançon http://www.planeteski.com/station/briancon/134-5570-231-festival-patchwork.html and Nantes in April and May I've been working on new landscapes and I've also needed to prepare for courses in both events with not much time left on my return in March before the first in Nantes http://www.pour-l-amour-du-fil.com/pages/en/home.php?lang=EN.
I'm glad to say that both my workshops for Grampians Texture are nearly at maximum capacity so it'll be hard work but fun as it always is out there.  Several students from my Geelong class are enrolled again so it will be like seeing friends
I've updated the courses page on my website or rather  I've sent new info to Peter and he's had the pleasure of putting it all together and publishing it - not a quick job by the look of it.

Ma visite en Australie est très proche - Feb 19 - et je suis en plein préparation.  Mes deux ateliers sont presque complet et j'ai plusieurs élèves de ma classe de Geelong inscrits.  Vieux amis!
Comme j'ai dit avant j'ai crée beaucoup de nouvelles oeuvres mais comme je participe à deux salons à Nantes http://www.pour-l-amour-du-fil.com/pages/en/home.php?lang=EN. et à Briançon  - http://www.planeteski.com/station/briancon/134-5570-231-festival-patchwork.html  et une exposition dans l'Aveyron- et nous sommes absents pendant l'été - j'ai besoin de travailler autant que je suis capable.

Scottish Borders II

Just completed the second Scottish landscape which doesn't show brilliantly here but gives an idea of what's been catching my imagination.  The pink plantation in the top represents Rose Bay Willow which grew in this area to absolutely stunning effect.  In fact we saw it all over the place so obviously climate and soil were perfect for maximum performance.
A juste terminé le deuxième paysage écossais qui n'affiche pas brillamment ici mais donne une idée de ce qui est attrapé mon imagination.  La plantation rose dans le dessus ce qui s'est développé dans cette zone à l'effet absolument magnifique.  En fait nous avons vu qu'il partout tellement évidemment climat et sol étaient parfait pour des pousses maximales.
I have other possibilities in the pipeline but will probably have a break now until after Christmas.  But mustn't idle too long as there are quite a number of shows coming up and who knows what might sell at any one of them.  That'd be nice!
J'ai d'autres possibilités en attente mais il y aurai probablement une rupture maintenant jusqu'à après Noël.  Mais ne doit pas tourner au ralenti trop longtemps car il y a un certain nombre d'expositions en 2013 et qui sait ce que pourrait se vendre d'entre elles.  Ce serait bien!

I may possibly organise a local exhibition of my work in June and then we are hoping to rent our house out for July and August so a long break.

Je peux probablement organiser une exposition locale de mon travail en juin et alors nous espérons louer notre maison  pendant juillet et août ainsi une vacance ailleurs envisagé

Winter work

It's a rather quiet time of year so as well as keeping up with creativity textile wise I'm also creating in the garden.  We're in the process of digging and planting the more unkempt (wild) parts of the land and particularly concentrating on shade loving and dry tolerant plants.  Discovered a great nursery in St Ambroix specialising in these plants - run by a husband and wife - and we had it all to ourselves so got masses of help.  Now all planted so we await Spring and Summer with impatience!
C'est un moment un peu calme de l'année alors apart de mon travail continu je travail au jardin.  Nous sommes en train de créer des endroits de plantes tolerantes de la secheresse, de l'ombre mais d'autres qui aiment le soleil.  Comme le temps en ce moment est fabuleux on profit bien d'être déhors.

Sheep grazing Scottish Border country

Well here is my second Scottish piece using lots of  vliesofix and misty fuse and paint but not much
embroidery.  These heat fusible webs are quite tricky to use as a material in their own right as they can become shiny with too hot an iron but too cool and they don't adhere properly.  I did get some shine but overcame most of the problems by adding more layers.
Voilà mon deuxième œuvre du sujet de Scottish Borders. J'utilisais beaucoup de vliesofix et de mistyfuse.  Ces thermocollant fusibles sont parfois difficile à utiliser car un fer à repasser trop chaud donne une brilliance  pas souhaitable mais trop froid et ils n'adhèrent pas suffise ment.
Il y avait un peu de brilliance  mais j'ajoutai une couche supplèmentaire et le résultat n'est pas mal

Weather has turned SO cold! Strong winds as well so work in the garden came to a halt where we're creating new 'dry plant' areas to try and avoid the problems of long dry summers.  We've only been here 17 years!
But my new Scottish work is coming along nicely with sheep, woods and mountains - quite a bit smaller than the first one.  Will post when ready.
Le temps a bien changé....... bbbrrr..........  On a commencé de nouveau travail dans le jardin où on essai de créer un lieu pour lesplantes qui ne crainent pas la secherese mais on ne pouvait pas continuer hier, trop froid et venteux.
Mais mon nouveau travail basé sur notre visite en Ecosse avance bien - je le poster quand il est terminé

Alas the piece I created for the Musé d'Angers triennale was not accepted.  Theme 'to web or too much web'.  The size restriction no larger than 12cm in any direction.  This gold and silver 'vessel' was created with fabric and free machining on soluble film and formed  whilst still wet from rinsing, round a bottle.
I shall look forward to seeing the work chosen when it is shown on their site.

Pas d'acceptance pour mon oeuvre pour le concours du Musée d'Angers.  Eh bien on gagne on perd c'est la vie.

I am preparing a background right now for another landscape based on a week's visit to the Scottish Borders a couple of years ago.  I really loved that scenery and the first work I did I sold at auction in the States.  I enjoyed creating that first piece too so hope I get as much enjoyment from this one.
